Nurturing-Outreach On Sunday mornings, do you notice how few cars are on the road when you’re going to church? Do you find it sad that so many people miss the chance to spend a little time with God, getting to know him better? Some of us like to dream crazy things — like getting caught in traffic jams on the way to church. We don’t have any great ideas for how to do it. And we have no Billy Grahams among us. But we take Christ’s command to spread the word seriously enough to look into a variety of options. If you’d like to know more, read on. If you’d like to brainstorm with us, we’d love to have you join us. Nurturing-Outreach Ministry Areas:
1. Visitor Packets: Check when “packets” need to be assembled. Organize assembly of “packets”. Make sure that Visitor Host helps with distribution of packets. Have this information added to the Service Booklet.
2. New Member Sponsors: Attend first and last session of New Member Class with designated New Member. Attend their Membership Joining Service. Keep contact with them for their first six months at Gloria Dei.
3. Community Based Family Services: Working with the Cabinet for Health & Family Services Department, to provide family services at Gloria Dei.
4. Prayer Bear Ministry: The Friendship Bible Class prepares the Prayer Bears. Someone keeps track of Prayer Bear Requests & notifies prayer group. Lynne Goodridge prints little card that goes in bear’s pocket.
5. Visit Shut-Ins: Pastor Vicki will notify “visitor servants” when this is needed. Shut-in visits are made two times per year by the Ruth Circle and at Christmas by the Mary Circle.
6. Home Communion: Training provided by Pastor Vicki Visit at least one time per month to give communion.
7. Bereavement Dinners: See Time and Talent sheet for people offering to prepare food.
8. Community Prayer Services: People go out into the community to gather prayer requests that then get lifted up at a 2 PM Prayer Service. Lynne and Paul organize the service and the music. A light lunch is served before going out.
9. College Student Contact: Lisa Miller is lead person for this ministry.
10. Prayer Care Team: Serving the prayer needs of others through 1 on 1 prayer in the Chapel following worship services. This will begin during Lent, 2009.
