GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Super Bowl Chili Sale -  Today is the Men’s Group chili sale.  This event is always a lot of fun, people get some great chili, and we receive donations that will help us send Angel Tree children to a week-long Christian summer camp. Chili will be available after each of the morning services.

Notice – The Annual Congregational meeting is scheduled for February 19^th   (notice correction) @ 12:15PM. Annual reports will be available for your review on February 12^th.

Why not get fed spiritually AND physically on Sunday morning! The youth will be hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 26th from 8:30-10:30am in the Fellowship Hall.  Bring the whole family for flap jacks flipped by our youth, and help them raise funds for their summer trips!  Love offering accepted at the door!

 

February 20th is a great day to not cook any meal! You would much more prefer to eat out on Monday, February 20th- and you will want to have bbq!  The youth are hosting a fundraiser at City BBQ in Florence.  The youth get 25% of the sales from people bringing in the flyer for that day.  It is a great way to feed your family and help the youth! 

SOCIAL MINISTRY

THANK YOU all for keeping our United Ministry grocery cart full of needed food and cleaning products. Please continue to share whatever and whenever possible.  Also, stop in at the THRIFT SHOP (located at 525 Graves Ave. Erlanger) from 9-12 Wed., Thurs., Fri. or 9-1 on Sat.  Check out the bargains waiting there for you. Toys, housewares, clothing, holiday items. All proceeds help UM provide for their clients.

WOMEN’S  MINISTRY

Hannah Circle is collecting children's books (new or look new for patients 0-11yrs) for HealthPoint Family Care.   Donations are needed for their Reach Out & Read Program www.reachoutandread.org so if your own kids have outgrown some books, or if you find a book sale (see Half Priced Books in Florence!) please leave them in a donation box in the Welcome Center.  Thank you!

LENTEN SCHEDULE

Notice: time change for the Annual Lenten Prayer Vigil.  The hours of the Lenten Prayer Vigil held on February 20^th in the Chapel were incorrectly stated in the newsletter.  The correct time for the Vigil is from 5 am to Midnight.  A new prayer cycle will begin on the hour throughout that time.  Please come and join in this important time of prayer leading in to the discipline of Lent

Midweek Dinner at 6:00 PM & Worship @ 7:00 PM (2/22, 2/29, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21 & 3/28. Dinner will again be held before the Wednesday evening Lenten services beginning Ash Wednesday, February 22nd. This first dinner will be Pot Luck so please plan on bringing your favorite dish and join in the fellowship.  These dinners will begin at 6pm just prior to the 7pm worship service. Weeks following will have dinner prepared by the Youth Group and the Circles of the Women of the ELCA. Each of these Wednesday meals will be a fundraiser with Thrivent Financial providing an opportunity for matching funds.  Watch the weekly Sunday bulletins for more details. Sign-up sheets will be provided in the Welcome Center.

WHOLE HEALTH MINISTRY and OUTREACH

Spiritual thought for the day… Let go of your fears; God is still God in spite of your fear.

Have your Blood Pressure taken today after each morning service in Preschool Room “D”.

Please join us TODAY for our third annual In-House Prayer Walk after the 11 o’clock service.  Lunch will be provided for those participating in the walk. This in-house (at Gloria Dei) Prayer Walk will be over in time for you to begin your Super Bowl activities.   Spending time in prayer and thanking God for all of his blessings…changes everything! 

February is American Heart Month!  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U. S.  The Whole Health Ministry would like to increase your awareness of heart & blood vessel disease and increase your knowledge about prevention.  The WHM would like for you to consider having your blood pressure taken on the 1^st Sunday of each month.  To reduce stress, attend 1 of 2 exercise classes (Seitai) on Saturday mornings and Sacred Space on the 3^rd Thurs. of the month.  We will have a Healthy Cooking & Nutrition demonstration at Gloria Dei on March 3, more info to come.   Look for ideas to make heart healthy lifestyle choices on the WHM bulletin board.  It is never too late to make better choices for your heart health.

Refresh Your Soul Conference on March 9 &10 is a conference for caregivers and anyone going through times of trial or loss.  Douglas Smith’s presentations are inspiring, motivating and deeply meaningful.  Registration deadline is Feb. 20.  To register visit www.parishhealthministry.com or call 800.835.5768 ext. 4545.  The conference will be held at Community of the Good Shepherd in Cincinnati.

YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRY

Service opportunity for the whole family.  Join us on Saturday, February 11^th, as we gather with Isaiah Project to help our neighbors in Newport.  We will meet at Highlands Hills Baptist Church in Ft. Thomas @ 10:15am.  They will give us instructions and we will head out to serve meals, give clothes away and hand out groceries.  Dress warm because we will be outside.

 

The cold keeping you in?  Going a little stir crazy?  Join us for the Cabin Fever event on Saturday, February 18th.  Dance floor, dinner, candy bar and games.  Something for everyone in the family!  More information to come!

CHOIR

Gloria Dei Young Singers is the children’s choir for children preschool to 2^nd grade. And the Gloria Dei Choristers is a children’s choir for children in grades 3 through 6. We meet each Sunday at 9:45 AM in the chapel (Singers) or choir room (Choristers). Children are dismissed for Sunday School at 10:10  AM. Come join us today. Questions? EDUCATION

First Communion class will be on Monday, February 13 from 5:30-7pm.  If your child is interested, please see Rebecca Behbehani.  The youth will celebrate their first communion at the Ash Wednesday service on February 22nd.  If you have questions about the class, or want to volunteer to help teach, please let Rebecca know.

“Lunch & the Lord”: Mondays from 12:10 – 12:50 PM (Study of the lessons for next Sunday).

Adult Bible Studies: Mondays @ 10:15 AM (studying “Who is Jesus”) & Wednesday 6:00 PM class (studying “Who is Jesus”).

Youth Sunday School starts after Children’s Choir at 10:10 AM every Sunday.  Mark your calendars, there is no Youth Sunday School on February 19th. 

 

Adult Sunday School Opportunities:

      DVD called "Ten Commandments" in F-1 at 10:00 AM.

      INTERACTIONS Bible Study Group meets in F2 @ 10:10 AM every Sunday.  We are studying the book of Philippians from the NEW COMNUNITY SERIES entitled, RUN THE RACE.  All are welcome to join us!!

High School Bible Study Crew:  Mark you calendars for the 1st Tuesday of every month- we will meet at the church at 6pm for dinner and study.  The 3rd Tuesday of the month we will meet at the church at 5:45pm, and carpool to Lifeline Ministries.  We will help them with deliveries, sorting and whatever they need till 8pm.

Something new and interesting is heading your way for youth Sunday school!  Join us on February 26th as we fly high in the sky to a new adventure. Look for our "plane" in the Sunday school hallway! Plus, you won't want to miss out on Sunday school because you could earn a free breakfast!  Get your passport stamped 7 times between February 26-April 29, and you will get to eat all the pancakes you want for FREE at the Sunday school celebration on May 6th.  And just so you know, we have a professional flipper coming on May 6th.  He will flip your pancakes in the air....but will you be able to catch them?

 

Confirmation youth will meet on Wednesday, February 29th for worship and discussion from 6:45-8pm.
