Welcome!   In the name of Jesus, you are heartIly welcomed.    We pray that God will use this time of gathering for God’s purpose and to nurture your faith.  If you are new to a Lutheran service, we really want to help you enjoy and become comfortable with our worship.  Please fill out the information sheet in the black book in the pew so that we may note your presence with us today.

 

GOD’S HOUSE IS EXACTLY WHERE CHILDREN SHOULD BE!  We welcome them fully. Chairs are located near the nursery -- in the hallway by the window -- if your child becomes noisy or restless.  The nursery is open and available to children up to 3 years old.

 

HOLY COMMUNION: You do not have to be a member of this congregation to receive Holy Communion.  All baptized Christians who believe that Christ is truly present in this Sacrament are invited to the table. Glasses of white grape juice are provided in each tray for those who for personal or health reasons are unable to receive wine.

Today at the 9:00 service we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Kirsten Bailey Bradbury daughter of Justin & Elizabeth Bradbury, will be baptized into the priesthood of believers.

 

Today at the 11:00 service we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Kaliyah Marie Honnerlaw daughter of Shawn & Amy Honnerlaw, will be baptized into the priesthood of believers.

 

The Service Coordinator Training has been cancelled for today, March 7th and will be rescheduled in April.  Watch the bulletin for a further update.

OWLS - We are going on an over-nite Croswell Bus trip to Wabash County, Indiana on April 22-23. We will see the musical comedy "Church Basement Ladies".  This is loosely based on the best selling book "Growing Up Lutheran".  The cost is $199.00 which covers 2 days - 1 night - 2 meals and another attraction on the way home. Cleaning for a Reason: If you know any woman currently undergoing Chemo, please pass the this information on to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - 1 time per month for 4 months while she is in treatment (some location restrictions).  For additional information go to http://www.cleaningforareason.org/

 

The Nurture/Outreach committee invites you to serve as a New Member Sponsor.  You will meet your new member on March 14 @ 2:00 PM.  On March 21 you will stand-up with your new member as they join the family of Gloria Dei.  Then make one contact per month for the following six months.  PLEASE help welcome our new members. MEN”S MINISTRY

 

Men's Monday Night Bible Study - We'll have our next meeting tomorrow at 7:30 PM at the home of Bob Young.  Bill Miller will lead the study.  We're on Principle 5 of "Jesus on Leadership."  Contact Bob (250-0014) so he will know how many are coming.

 

Men’s Retreat @ the Red River Gorge, March 26th & 27th. Pastor Vicki will lead the retreat. Topic: The Terrain of Our Spiritual Lives (A spiritual retreat based on the terrain of the Gorge). For additional information contact Bob Young @ 250-0014 or Bob Handahl @ 331-7137.

 

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

 

Mary Circle will meet at the home of Beverly Broomhead on March 18th at 7pm. The program will be about Beverly’s trip to China. Please contact Beverly to let her know if you will be able to attend the meeting. Donations of paper products and cleaning supplies for United Ministries will be collected. 

 

It is not to late to sign up for the Women’s Retreat, 3/19 @ 4 PM to 3/20, around 2 PM at St. Anne’s Convent in Melbourne.  Pastor Vicki will lead the retreat. Sign up in the Welcome Center. The signup sheet is on a poster in the narthex. Fill out the registration form found on the poster and send it with your money to either Geneva Reimer, Debby Rieselman, Jennifer Murray, or Virginia Huenniger. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

 

Confirmation meeting times for Lent are 6pm till 7:45pm.  Dinner is $3 but if you would like to skip dinner, meet us at 6:30pm in the youth room. We will return to our regular schedule after Easter.

 

Attention New Member Classes: Today @ 10:00 AM & 3/14  @ 1:00 PM. New members will be received on March 21st at all services.

 

Youth Sunday School begins in the Fellowship Hall at 9:50AM every Sunday.  Join in on the silly songs, prayers, readings, skits and important announcements.  We then dismiss to each classroom rotation at 10 AM. 

 

High School Bible Study will be on Tuesday, March 9th and 23rd starting at 6pm.  We will meet both times at the Chick-fil-a in Florence! Friends are welcome to attend!

YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRY

 

Need a mini-tropical vacation with the family?  Want to forget about the snow for the day?  Join us at Coco Keys Resort in Sharonville, OH on 3/21 for an afternoon at the water park.  We will meet at the church at 12PM and head up there.  The value-saver pack that comes out usually has tickets for $15 a person.  I will keep my eye open for them.  Tickets will be no more than $20.  Please sign up on the youth board.

 

Summer Dates:  Middle School and up mission trip to Knoxville, TN June 6-11.  High School and up mission trip to Chicago, IL July 3-9.  Vacation Bible School July 25-30

 

The high school youth will be at the church on Saturday, March 27th from 5-10pm to care for your children.  Dinner will be provided! This is a great event for all youth!  Please sign up on the youth board.

 

 

SOCIAL MINISTRY

 

Lenten Rice Dinner Project. Pick up a bag of rice from a basket in the church narthex as you leave today.  Join your fellow members at Gloria Dei in experiencing a meal which sustains many people each day throughout this world. Information and suggestions for this project are included with each bag. Your gifts to ELCA World Hunger ensure that important work continues to meet the increasing need for food around the world and close to home.

 

HELP needed on Tuesday, March 9, 2010:  Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve, and clean up for an evening meal to several homeless families participating in the Interfaith Hospitality Network.  Especially needed are two hosts in the evening to interact with the children and their families.  Please  sign up on the bulletin board at church or contact Donna Kimball at Home 859-356-3480, or on cell 859-835-3498.

 

United Ministries provides food, financial, and housing assistance to those in need who live within Boone and Kenton Co. (excluding Covington and Newport). Financial donations are used for operating expenses, for financial assistance and to purchase food in quantity.  You may send checks directly to UM at -  PO Box 18430, Erlanger, KY 41018 or write them to Gloria Dei with UM on the memo line. If you wish to make in kind donations, the following are in greatest need: Canned Meats (tuna, chicken, ham, stews), Canned Pasta of all types, Toiletry items (soap, toothpaste & brushes, shampoo, mouthwash, etc.), Paper products (towels, tissues, and toilet paper) & Diapers (size 3 to 5).

 

Haiti relief effort — Martha Circle is coordinating efforts with the rest of the Women of the ELCA and the Social Ministries Committee in a Haitian relief effort involving the entire congregation. Donations are being sought between now and Sunday, March 21, to make health kits for Lutheran World Relief to distribute in Haiti. Donations are needed of new dark-colored hand towels and wash clothes, as well as money to buy other items. (See the insert for more information on the health kits.) Hand towels and wash clothes may be placed in the large bin marked Health Kits for Haiti located in the Welcome Center.  Cash donations may be placed in the related envelopes found in the back of the pews, and checks should be made payable to WELCA. Health kits cost approximately $15 each, but any amount would be appreciated. People who would like to donate their time to help assemble the kits should watch future bulletins for announcements about that schedule.
