MINISTRY ASSISTANT DESCRIPTIONS FOR WORSHIP SERVICE
Altar Guild – Insures the altar is properly arranged and administered to before each service and cleaned after each service such as the filling and disposal of the individual wine glasses, changing of linens and candles, etc.
Altar Set-up - brings prepared communion trays from sacristy to the altar and furnishes the altar with necessary items needed for that service.
Children’s Sermon – Prepares and delivers a 2-3 minute sermon to the young children of the congregation during the 11 a.m. worship services and Christmas Eve service.Children’s Church Attendant & Helper Provides planned activities for the preschool age children during sermon time.Choir - Participate in the adult or youth choirs. The adult choir sings at most 11 a.m. worship services, as well as most special worship services. The adult choir practices on Wednesday nights and does not sing during the summer. The youth choirs sing once each month and at some special services. They practice during the Sunday school hour.Communion Assistant – Assists the Pastor and/or Lay Assistant with the distribution of the wine at communion during each worship service.Counter - Counts weekly offering then provides an accounting report to the Treasurer and deposits the money. This process is usually done after the 11 a.m. worship service each Sunday unless the counters make arrangements in advance to count the offering at another point in time.Lay Assistant – Participate in the worship service assisting the Pastor with communion, church prayers, readings, etc.
Nursery Attendant – Ministers to the children in the nursery during all (except 5:30) worship services and other special services such as Christmas. Outdoor Service Set-Up – Needed to set-up the worship area, tables, chairs and sound system prior to the outdoor service and to manage the rain agenda if necessary. What goes up must come down after each outdoor service.Pew Cleaner - removes outdated brochures/flyers/bulletins from pews bi-monthlyScripture Reader - Reads from the lectern the scripture lessons and psalms during each worship service and may also serve as sacristan, that means that you would come forward with the communion assistants and help out by replenishing the elements as needed.
Sound System Volume control for the individual speakers.
Servant Coordinator Insures that all volunteer positions are covered for worship service. Usher – Typically two are present at the 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. worship services (and the outdoor service); only one is needed during the 5:30 p.m. worship service, however 4-8 are needed during the 11 a.m. worship service as well as the Easter and Christmas services. Ushering duties include handing out bulletins before the worship service, collecting the offering, administering the congregational flow during communion, taking attendance and cleaning the pews after each worship service.
Visitor Host – One or two visitor hosts stand in the front of the narthex and meet and greet the worshipers as they arrive for each worship service hand out name tags and welcome packets.
