Newsletter of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 2718 Dixie Hwy. Volume XXIV, No. 11 From The Pastor, Usually the hardest thing about writing my newsletter article is finding the initial topic or idea. This month is no problem. Since I write for the November newsletter it is inescapable that I should write about giving thanks. And I have so much about which to be thankful. I am, first and foremost, thankful for knowing Jesus Christ, on whom and in whom I get my life, my purpose, my joy, my hope, my meaning, and all good things. I can’t imagine life any other way. Without Jesus I don’t know where I would find any peace and joy, I don’t know how I would be open to loving others, how I would be content. And I am thankful—to God—for you. All of you; for those who sent me cards and notes, for those who sat with me in retreat, for those who raise your hands while you sing in worship, for those who prayed with me, for those who listened to others complain, for those who laughed with me, for everyone who works as a part of the staff here, for the choir and the praise band, for the church council and the chairs of committees, most especially for each and every one of you who opened yourself up to grow in the Lord. And I am thankful—to God—for my family and loved ones, most especially for the reversal in my sister Sandy’s health problems. And I am thankful—to God—for about a jillion other things that are too numerous to name here but which are in my heart. I am completely certain that being thankful is one of the healthiest things a person can do. It “tastes” better than turkey with all the fixin’s. It heals more than an aspirin. It sustains us more than a shot of vitamin B-12. So I invite you to make your own list and share it with at least one other person. It might just change both of you. -Pastor Vicki Annual Congregational Meeting

Fun For SeniorsCross your fingers and hope that the beautiful colored leaves stay on the trees until November 12th. That’s when the Gloria Dei Seniors go to Butler State Park. It's always beautiful to travel through Kentucky, but the fall is extra special. So why not go with us? We always have a good time.
Angel Tree ReportLast year in the state of Kentucky, there were 5,361 Angel Tree children. Volunteers from 192 churches purchased and delivered Christmas gifts to these children, and shared the gospel with them. All AT children in Kentucky were served. This did not happen in other states. Through your generosity, 50 local children received presents along with a message from the prisoner parent and the Christmas gospel. Prisoners sign up for the Angel Tree program through the prison chaplain. Information is then sent to volunteer churches like Gloria Dei, and participants are sought to purchase gifts. Once again we have 50 children to be served. Each child is to receive two gifts costing $15 - 20 each: a clothing item and a toy. If you would like to sponsor a child, or participate in Angel Tree in some other way, please contact Bonnie Handahl at bbhand@fuse.net or 331-7137.

Twenty-seven coats and jackets were collected for the “Coats of Many Colors” program. $960 raised from an art raffle and $950 from donations will go towards helping families in Northern Kentucky who need our help. Thank you to everyone who came, donated, and gave their time for this worthy cause.
