Gloria Dei By-laws Amendment

The following amendment to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church By-laws has been recommended by the Church Council for approval of the Congregation.  This amendment will be on the agenda for action at the Annual Congregational Meeting scheduled for November 9, 2008.  The purpose of the amendment is to remove all ambiguity from the relationship between the Gloria Dei Preschool and the Church, as well as set the terms for how the Preschool Governing Board is formed.

Addition to By-laws:   Article III

5. The Gloria Dei Preschool is a ministry of the Congregation and, therefore, its human resource policies in accordance with the employee handbook, its budget and fees, and its adoption of policy or mission are to be approved by the Church Council, in accordance with the mission of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  The Preschool will report to Council through the Preschool Governing Board, who will bring to Council all items requiring Council approval or attention.

5.1  The Preschool Governing Board will be made up of 5 voting members: the Pastor, three church members appointed by Council and one Council member, as well as 2 non-voting members: the President of the Preschool Parents Advisory Board and the Preschool Director.

5.2  Members appointed to the Preschool Governing Board by Council will serve 2-year terms, with terms beginning July 1.   These members may not serve more than two consecutive terms.  A member appointed to fill a partial term of less than one year may serve two additional consecutive terms.   The term of the Council representative will begin on the 4^th Sunday in November.

5.3  For the initial formation of the Preschool Governing Board, Council shall appoint two members to serve 2-year terms and one member to serve a 1-year term.   Each of these members will be eligible to serve an additional 2-year term.
